That’s exactly what Matthieu and I did, and let me tell you, it was a trip like no other.

Sighnaghi, known as Georgia’s “City of Love”, is filled with incredible history, surprising experiences, and breathtaking beauty.

Whether you’re planning to relax and soak in the atmosphere or you’re up for an adventure, Sighnaghi has something for everyone.

The cold didn’t stop us from enjoying everything this charming town had to offer—from unexpected invitations from locals to homemade chacha, khinkali and a few too many rounds of cognac that made this weekend one we’ll never forget.

First stop? The fortress walls of Sighnaghi, are the longest in Georgia.

Stretching over 4 kilometers (yes, you read that right!), these walls were built in the 18th century to protect the town from invaders.

9th April Park

9th April Park is a cozy green space right in Sighnaghi, a town famous for its romantic vibe and breathtaking views. The park is a great spot to relax, especially after wandering the cobblestone streets and exploring the city walls.

Why is it called 9th April?

The park is named after April 9th,1989 a historic day when Georgians held a peaceful protest in Tbilisi for independence from the Soviet Union. Sadly, the protest ended in tragedy, but it became a turning point that led to Georgia’s independence two years later.

What makes it special?

Apart from its historical name, this park is super laid-back. You can sit on a bench, admire the gorgeous Alazani Valley below, or just enjoy the fresh air. It’s also a nice spot for families and couples—there’s a playground for kids and plenty of shade for a quiet moment.

Fun fact: Sighnaghi is known as the “City of Love,” so 9th April Park is a favorite for romantic strolls. Maybe you’ll even spot a wedding shoot while you’re there!

Alright, it’s time for a little history and a lot of stunning views. 

St. George’s Church is one of the oldest landmarks in Sighnaghi and a must-visit for history and architecture lovers. Dedicated to Georgia’s patron saint, this church is a mix of spirituality and tradition in Sighnaghi.
Built in the 19th century, St. George’s Church has a simple yet beautiful design, with traditional Georgian architecture that feels timeless. It’s a peaceful place to light a candle, take in the spiritual atmosphere, or just enjoy the views of the surrounding Alazani Valley from its hilltop location.

Bodbe Monastery

The locals in Sighnaghi are so welcoming and friendly that Matthieu and I were invited into a Georgian home for homemade chacha and cognac (yes, we were tipsy by the time we left).

The best part?

We didn’t just drink; we shared stories and laughs, and got local tips on everything from food to life in Georgia.

Sighnaghi is famous for its hospitality—and if you open yourself up to it, you’ll find yourself making lasting friendships in no time.

Fun fact: Georgians love to toast (with the famous “Gaumarjos!”), and each toast has a meaning. Be ready to toast to your health, your friendship, and the beauty of life!

Riding to Sighnaghi in October was an experience in itself.

The motorbiking was challenging due to the cold, but the wind in our faces and the adrenaline kept us going.

The beautiful landscapes made the ride more than worth it. As we approached Sighnaghi, all the discomfort from the freezing temperatures melted away, and we were embraced by the beauty and warmth of the town (and the homemade cognac, of course).
